![]() ![]() In their efforts to capture movement avant-garde artists like Degas and Rodin turned to the world of dance. Walking, running, stopping in your tracks-not to mention such "movements of the soul" as terror: what conventions govern representation of the movements and postures involved?Īrtworks are by nature static, but artists were trying to anatomize movement long before chronophotography came along and opened up new perspectives for them in the late 19th century. Observing works from the Louvre and its partners will help visitors appreciate the challenge conveying movement represents for artists, and the solutions they have come up with, using the different materials and techniques available to them. The guest at the Musée du Louvre is one of the performing arts: dance. After seeing this, Duncan publicly denounced ballet as a form of acrobatics- a “complicated and excruciating mechanism,” she called it.This critique generated, I think, some undue rivalry between ballet and modern dance. And it would take a long time, many years in fact, for that rivalry to calm down. For its second season, the Petite Galerie at the Louvre, dedicated to art and culture education, is offering an initiation into representation of "The Body in Movement." The following day, Pavlova invited Duncan to watch her practice.Duncan accepted but was appalled by what she saw.To her, the exercises that Pavlova and the other ballerinas were doing seemed painful, even harmful- standing on tiptoe for hours, moving their bodies in unnatural ways. And the next year, she performed in Russia. But…the Russian critics were not very kind. Some said Duncan’s art form was closer to pantomime than to dance. But, her style was a clear rebellion against ballet, and ballet is extremely important in Russia.A question, Julie? FEMALE STUDENT:Yeah, what did Duncan have against ballet? I mean, she studied it as a child … MALE PROFESSOR:As a youngster, she may have found it too restrictive, uh, not creative enough.I think that feeling is exemplified by something that happened …early in her career… in Russia.Duncan attended a ballet, and the lead dancer was the renowned Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. No two performances were alike, and audiences, for the most part, adored her.In 1904, she opened a school of modern dance in Berlin. Her expressive gestures were motivated from within rather than being dictated by strict technique.Duncan also wore her hair down ballerinas typically wear their hair in a tight bun behind the head. And instead of the short stiff skirts and rigid toe shoes worn by ballerinas, Duncan wore loose, flowing tunics, and she danced barefoot. Now, that was something her audiences had never seen before!Duncan performed in Paris and other European cities, dancing to the music of classical composers but avoiding set movements and steps. ![]() Now, a pioneer of modern dance was Isadora Duncan, who was born in 1878… Isadora Duncan did study ballet briefly as a child, but she quickly developed her own unique style, which she called “free dance.” And, by age fourteen, she was teaching her free dance to young children and giving recitals. Her early dance technique was loosely based on the natural movements of children: running, skipping, acting out stories also on motions from nature: uh, waves crashing onto shore, trees swaying in the wind. ![]() Um, what made modern dance so radical? Well, for example, I think the best analogy to modern dance is modern art or modern music.Compared to their classical predecessors, these newer art forms are freer, more experimental, more improvisational.Modern dance seeks to show how deep emotions…and the music itself… how these intangible attributes can affect and inspire physical movement and how movement can convey emotions to the audience.As-as I said, in classical ballet, emotions are conveyed through a set of strictly formalized movements. MALE PROFESSOR:As we’ve been studying, ballet, classical ballet, is based on formalized movements: specific positioning of the arms, of the feet, and the body. So, now let’s move on to modern dance, also known as “theatrical dance.”Modern dance evolved in the late nineteenth-early twentieth century, and in most cases, audiences were very receptive to this radical new type of performing art. ![]() NARRATOR:Listen to part of a lecture in a dance history class. ![]()

![]() ![]() Guitar Rig 6 Pro also got big competition with the Reason Rack Plugin, which can also be used as an FX processor. A big advantage of this is its modular engine where you can freely combine effects, add VST plugins in the same rack, or expand it with new Rack Extensions from the Reason Studios. This is where NI could have stood out with unique processors that are less common such as from Glitch Machines, Inear Display, etc. Many manufacturers often offer the same effects. I miss the experimental thought and effects that go beyond classic reverbs or delays. The announced effects are unfortunately very much designed for bread and butter. New effects are nice and open the door to new sound design possibilities. Here, too, I have to say that it is more about refreshing than innovation. In addition to new amps, Native Instruments promises numerous new effects. The idea is not new, it can be found for a long time in the BIAS plugin from Positive Grid. I would trust the NI developers that they could top the level without any problems. How exciting it would be if NI offers a guitar amp designer tool kit with which users can design their own amps using emulated components from amps, impulse responses, etc. However, I find it a shame that this innovative technology remains hidden from the end customer. That all sounds very exciting, especially the words that they will be working with the community on future add-ons. With the new ICM (Intelligent Circuit Modeling), NI promises to have developed a new tech with which the behavior of hardware devices can be reproduced more accurately using machine learning. It’s more of an evolution than a revolution. What I noticed about the GR6Pro information is that the feature set is not very much innovative. We have Neural DSP, IK Multimedia with Amplitube, Positive Grid with BIAS, Blue Cat Audio Axiom but also Native Instruments Guitar Rig Pro. This also includes the constant growing software solutions for guitarists. As an ex-guitarist, I’m still excited to see how this market develops. ![]() GR6Pro is the highlight of this Komplete bundle but I’m still a bit divided. However, I have to be so honest with my community that I am missing a lot in the new Komplete 13 version. Every two years I look forward to the moment when Native Instruments will present a new Komplete Bundle/products. In addition to this, Komplete 13 adds numerous already published effect plugins (RAUM, Crush Pack…), new Kontakt 6 libraries (Cremona Quartet, Arkhis…), a new polysynth for Reaktor 6, and many sound expansions. We were no different during the Reaktor 6 announcement. We, the synth friends will understand the anticipation for the upcoming Guitar Rig 6 Pro. No wonder, the developers made us wait 15 years for a version 6. Guitarists will be delighted with this announcement: “finally a product for rock/metal”. Where it was Kontakt 6 two years ago, the highlight of K13 is the redesigned and upgraded Guitar Rig 6 Pro. The Native Instruments Komplete 13 bundle was introduced on Tuesday with a big social media boom. ![]() ![]() Note: For some content products, manuals are only available in English.Komplete by NI is a huge plugin & sound bundle, which has now been updated to 13 which is not perfect in some places.
