I love the shopping experience of browsing, picking things up and being enticed by items that I wasn’t even looking for. Not everyone is computer savvy so there will always be a customer base and I do think people like myself are coming back round to wanting a personal service. I truly believe we could see the re-birth of independent retailers and more boutique shops on the High Street and if they do start to pop up be sure to support them. Yes the shop had to be competitive with the online prices, but I didn’t mind paying a little bit more for that personal service on what was a big purchase that will last me years. I also wanted to be able to see the size and feel the weight. I want to speak to someone who knew the products and could advice me on what would meet my needs. I purchased a camera last year and would never have just ordered one online. There is definitely a need for specialist stores for cameras and music and such like, I just don’t think there is the demand for a massive chain store to survive. This will then present an opportunity for us local businesses. ![]() So with a High Street half empty landlords may be forced to reduce rents to fill there stores. I like to feel the quality of the fabric and try things on before I buy and I know I am not alone in this. However, I believe that maybe this cloud could have a silver lining! The High Street won’t ever disappear completely as I feel there will always be a need for clothing stores. There is nothing I hate more than walking through a shopping centre and seeing empty units.
